Healing Garden

David Kamp

  • The idea of a ‘healing garden’ is well established in many developed countries as a specific form of landscape design method; it meets the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the people using the garden, as well as their caregivers, family members and friends.

There’s a proven connection between nature, healing, and health. The first part of this book discusses the ‘healing garden’ concepts along with types and various garden design considerations, all presented with detailed theory, illustrations, charts, and diagrams.

The second part of this title focuses on examples showing the final, built projects on a wide range of types of healing gardens, including various international garden designs, from restorative gardens to outdoor learning environments, medical facilities, hospitals and rehabilitation centers, designs for the aging, care homes, private sanctuaries, memorial gardens, workplace environments, and children’s areas. This book covers topics such as sustainable gardens, edible gardens, viewing gardens, rooftop gardens, and so much more.

Each project investigates the progress through initial concept, design and construction. This unique compilation is a useful and informative reference for all landscape architects and designers, and healthcare professionals.
